Conservatives Fund endorses Akin in Mo. Senate bid

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) ? A conservative fundraising group endorsed embattled Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin on Thursday and said its membership had pledged $290,000 to help replenish the Republican's financially strapped campaign against Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.

The announcement by the Senate Conservatives Fund marks the most high-profile financial commitment Akin has received as he seeks to recover from the loss of millions of dollars of planned advertising by other national groups that aid Republicans. Those groups withdrew their support after Akin remarked last month that women's bodies have ways of averting pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape."

Akin has apologized repeatedly since then while rejecting calls from top Republicans ? including presidential nominee Mitt Romney ? to quit the race. He's hoping his campaign can gain momentum after he let pass Tuesday's final deadline to drop out of the race.

Akin, a congressman from suburban St. Louis, said he was thankful and "very enthusiastic" about winning the support of the Senate Conservatives Fund.

"I think it's logical ? I am a conservative, they're conservatives, I think it's a common-sense type of thing," Akin said during a campaign stop Thursday at the Missouri Capitol, where he began his political career as state House member in 1989.

The Senate Conservatives Fund said it endorsed Akin because he is a Republican nominee, the race against McCaskill remains competitive and Missouri is important to Republican efforts to gain the four seats necessary to win control of the Senate. The organization said it hopes to get $100,000 of the pledged money to Akin's campaign by Sunday, which is the cutoff for the quarterly financial reporting period.

The fund has gained prominence in recent years with the aid of Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., a favorite among tea party activists. Among other things, the Senate Conservatives Fund supports a ban on congressional spending earmarks, which use legislation to direct particular amounts of money to specific entities in a particular state or congressional district.

Akin has used earmarks in the past to direct funding to such things as highway projects and military armor, although he and Matt Hoskins, the executive director of the Senate Conservatives Fund, both have said Akin supports the group's ban on earmarks.

Akin said Thursday that he's against amendments that are slipped into bills at the last moment that direct money to specific projects, particularly if joint House and Senate conference committees add items that weren't in versions that originally passed the chambers. But he added: "Don't take the definition (of earmark) so broadly that the members of Congress don't have any input into the budget process."

The aid from the Senate Conservatives Fund follows Akin's endorsement Wednesday by DeMint and former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, whose Patriot Voices political action committee said it was contributing money to Akin and hiring staff to work in Missouri. The Freedom's Defense Fund, which backs conservative candidates, also said earlier this week that it planned a $250,000 advertising campaign benefiting Akin.

But Akin will need even more outside help to keep pace with Democratic-leaning groups supporting McCaskill.

Emily's List, which backs Democratic women who support abortion rights, and the Service Employees International Union issued a joint statement Thursday saying they had bought $1 million in ads in support of McCaskill to run in the state's largest TV markets of St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which already has spent about $1 million on TV ads in Missouri, has reserved $4.3 million of additional advertising to begin running Oct. 9.

I believe strongly in national health care, opportunities for anyone to receive an education, and gun control. However, I believe in providing food and other necessities to my family even more. The current administration has done nothing to alleviate the ever-rising cost of living in this country. I am a public employee who has seen no increase in salary, yet I have watched my expenses increase with each passing month. Easiest & Most Risky Real Estate Investing StrategyBy Paul Esajian

What?s the easiest real estate investing strategy for getting started but which can also be the most risky?

If asked, most real estate investors would say that wholesaling is one of the best ways to get started in investing, especially those who are working with limited resources.

However, there is a further variation of wholesaling real estate which is even easier than many realize; assigning contracts.

By simply sticking to assigning or flipping real estate contracts aspiring investors can get started with virtually no cash of their own, can realize the fastest returns on their efforts, enjoy the smallest possible risk if any at all and can get their feet wet and some experience under their belts while building on their real estate education.

The beautiful thing is that assigning contracts doesn?t have to just be a real estate investing strategy for newbies either. It has proven to be easily scalable and to be able to yield quite a significant level of income.

So if it is so hard to lose when flipping real estate contracts why can it also be called one of the most ?risky? ways to invest in real estate?

There are two parts to the risk. The first is for those locking down properties with contracts and this risk is making too much at this level and then never taking the time build on real education or develop other skills and strategies.

However, the real risk is for new investors who are buying these contracts. If you are lucky you?ll have great wholesalers and a team of bird-dogs sourcing properties like this for you around the clock. Unfortunately, new investors frequently get suckered into buying dud deals at local real estate investor meetings. Walk-in without any real estate education and you?ve got a big target on your back. Pay an upfront assignment fee without knowing what you are doing or doing your due diligence and you could easily find you paid thousands of dollars for a contract on a property you can?t finance or is so riddled with issues from leaking septic tanks to giant liens that you?ll never be able to sell the deadweight on. So make sure you do your homework first and hold off paying the assignment fee until closing.

Netanyahu to press for Iran 'red line' in U.N. speech

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu will argue for the need to set a "red line" for Iran's nuclear program in his U.N. speech on Thursday, a confidant to the prime minister said, playing down differences with Washington.

Netanyahu faces the world body a day after U.S. President Barack Obama disappointed some Israelis by imposing no ultimatum to the Iranians in his own address, though he did warn that time for diplomacy with Tehran "is not unlimited".

Israel sees a mortal threat in a nuclear-armed Iran and has long threatened to strike its arch-foe pre-emptively, agitating war-wary world powers as they pursue sanctions and negotiations.

Complicating Netanyahu's strategy have been his testy relations with Obama as a U.S. election looms, and the reluctance of many Israelis to trigger an unprecedented conflict with Iran, which denies that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons and has pledged wide-ranging retaliation if attacked.

"The prime minister has already presented red lines in the past. But we have yet to persuade the entire world to present those same red lines," Environment Minister Gilad Erdan, an influential member of Netanyahu's rightist Likud party, told Israel's Channel Two television.

He said Netanyahu, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, "will present them again, will explain why there is a danger not just to Israel, but to the whole West, to the United States, to the whole free world, should Iran pass a certain (nuclear) threshold".

Netanyahu has said that Iran could have enough low-enriched uranium by early 2013 to refine to a high level of fissile purity for a first nuclear device. Israel worries that this final step, if taken, could happen too quickly or quietly to be prevented.

Iran has said it has no plans to enrich uranium beyond the 20 percent purity required to run a reactor producing medical isotopes. That level, however, brings raw uranium exponentially closer to the 90 percent enrichment required for a bomb.

Though reputed to have the Middle East's sole nuclear arsenal, Israel's forces would be hard-put to deliver lasting damage to Iran's remote facilities and handle a multi-front war.

Locating a completed nuclear warhead in Iran, Erdan said, "would be almost impossible, whereas today we still know where the production facilities of that nuclear warhead are".

DISSENT

Netanyahu's public calls for a U.S. ultimatum have deepened acrimony with Obama, a Democrat accused by his Republican rivals of being soft on the Jewish state's security.

The Israeli prime minister denies meddling in the November presidential election in the United States, and Erdan shrugged off his spats with Obama.

"I have no intention of whitewashing and say there are no disagreements between Obama and Netanyahu. But it still doesn't mean anything. Even between a married couple there are sometimes difficult disagreements. It still doesn't mean the pact between them becomes less solid," Erdan said.

Netanyahu, who heads a broad-based, conservative coalition government, said he would take the U.N. podium for an Israel "united in the goal of preventing Iran from achieving nuclear weaponry".

But surveys show that most Israelis - apparently swayed by the open dissent of several senior national-security figures - would oppose launching unilateral strikes on Iran, given the risk of alienating Washington and of sparking knock-on clashes with Tehran's Islamist militant allies in Lebanon and Gaza.

A poll published by the liberal Haaretz newspaper on Thursday found that 50 percent of Israelis feared for the survival of their country, should there be a conflict.

Israeli opposition leader Shaul Mofaz criticized Netanyahu for sparring with Obama and voiced confidence in U.S. resolve.

"I am convinced that the United States, the president of the United States, is determined to prevent Iran going nuclear," Mofaz told Israel's Army Radio.

Even within Netanyahu's coalition there have been misgivings about the pitch of disagreement with the United States.

Danny Ayalon, deputy to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, described Obama's Iran remarks at the United Nations as "important, albeit measured".

Speaking on Israel Radio, Ayalon said the Netanyahu government and Obama administration were in discreet contacts and approaching agreement on setting limits for Iran.

"And the more Iran flouts the whole world, this coming together will, ultimately, reach a unanimity of positions and absolute similarity," he said.

How To Browse Safely On The Web? Some Important Security Tips ...

Unlike what most people might think, browsing a webpage is not a passive activity at all. In the time spent reading interesting news or browsing an online store, there are many things that happen.

Like What?

The computer and the host web server inter-communicate and transfer important data from one to another. In this way, the data goes in a circuit of various computers and servers and may be really easy to tackle and intercept. In order to protect clients from having their private information stolen, servers have taken security measures to encrypt the data safely.

This system is being used more and more frequently and websites are encouraged to adopt a variety of security measures. With all the threats and the stakes in the game, some sites tend to ignore such useful protection either from lack of knowledge or from lack of funds.

How Does Phishing Come In?

Phishing has remained the top threat in the internet world. This is a practice which uses deception in order to steal important information. The basic thing is that the fraud makes you think that the business sends a legitimate request by copying the entire content and look of the actual site. In this way the?naive?client is persuaded or threatened with something so that he offers private information.

The worst cases of phishing involve copying the website of a shopping venue or even a bank. In this way the scammer gets full access to the bank account details of the user.

Besides phishing, identity theft is another very serious online crime. It is similar to phishing, but this time the scammers will sell the information to another party or even use it to access the open accounts. In this way, the customer may end up with an empty account from a variety of expensive shopping. This often happens before anyone even realizes the problem.

It is important to stay safe online and, in the end, each user has the obligation to take the necessary measures to protect his privacy. While there is no sure method to state which website is safe or not, it is good to get some safety habits while browsing that will help protect the data.

Important Tips for Secure Browsing

1) Paying for Online Shopping

It is important to shop or bank with a lot of care. All transactions on the internet need to be done through secure web servers for a proper handling of the transfer of data. Usually the websites with a URL starting with https, or which have a padlock in the status bar, are protected by the SSL security protocols. It is also recommended for ecommerce and banking sites to use extra encryption from a third party.

This will guarantee more safety and can be recognized by the presence of a small mark as a logo on the website. This trust mark may be accessed by clicking on it, and it should provide further information about the company which ensures the encryption. It is good to check for the validity of the company and to research any important details.

2) Refrain from Pop-Up Clicks

However tempting the spam message, ad or pop-up looks, it is important never to click on them at all. Even a simple click could be the beginning of installing a virus or a Trojan on the computer. Also entering a malware infected site is really dangerous as much information may be transmitted from the user to the scammers. The best thing to do is simply ignore them and mind your own business.

3) Check Before Downloading Free Software

The lure of free software is quite tempting for anyone. But most of these things might be just baited for something uglier. Usually the pretend software offered hides under the names of free anti-virus or malware scanner. In many cases these so- called free software programs are just ways for spyware and viruses to come in.

4) Install Internet Security

It is important to take care of the safety of your computer with the help of a trustworthy internet security pack. The right software needs to be selected carefully and needs to have at least an antivirus and a firewall.

The first one will detect and stop in good time any malware which tries to get into the system. The latter will monitor all traffic to and from the PC. In this way all hackers and spyware will be kept at a distance and any suspicious traffic will be rejected.

It is ideal to have safe browsing because, in this way, all the links are verified and the bad ones are blocked. Also it is recommended to have the programs updated from the vendors as often as possible. Nevertheless, the parental control offered by some security suites will make children safe so as not to stumble across what might be dangerous content.

Follow these tips and your web browsing will become more secure.

No Comments - Home Improvement Information

1: Comprehensively check the outside of your property for rodent access points. So you think it appears to be OK?

LOOK AGAiN! Mice can access your property thru a gap the width of inch and the diameter of a standard biro. Rats can enlarge any gap by chewing. Pay particular attention to air vents, under doors and around pipes entering your home any openings must be crammed with cement or crushed chicken wire and expanding foam. Doors will need brush strip fitted. Air vents with big vent holes will need wire mesh fitted to reject rodent access.

2:Thats great but they're already within my property:

Rats and Mice need the same things generally that we do like food, warmth and somewhere safe to live. So we need to constrain their options by keeping all loose foods in sealed containers, by not leaving spilled food available and do not forget the garbage, overflowing bins are Rat heaven. Rats also require lots of water more if their food source is dry so it?s clever to identify where they are probably getting food and water and as best as feasible constrain these sources. If it's not possible to constrict these sources as can frequently be the case it is still necessary to identify them so a strategy can be formed for stage three.

3:The last option is to Poison, Trap or ask them to leave!

A variety of poisons are available from your local Farm Suppliers Store: If you have identified that their food source is dry ie.grain then utilise a liquid bait would you need more food if you had Plenty or would you need something to give it a clean down with? Inversely use grain bait if water isn't a problem. So far so good? What about if they have access to water and food sources that can?t be limited by you. Trapping is a workable choice using typical traps or sticky boards. Rats are neophobic which suggests they have a fear of new objects in their environment so conventional traps will take time from the other perspective sticky boards which lay flat on the ground and can be placed along their runs are both quick and effective however they aren't to be used by the delicate as being faced with a live Rat stuck to one of these boards is not a pleasant experience also there will be legislation in most countries to guarantee best practice on there use.

Bosnian Muslims Chose New Chief Mufti :: Balkan Insight

Elvira M. Jukic

The Mufti of the northeast Bosnian town of Tuzla, Husein Effendi Kavazovic, has been chosen as the new Chief Mufti of the country's Islamic Community amongst two other candidates at a session of the main body of the Islamic Community on Sunday.

Kavazovic was supported by 240 votes, the candidate from the mid-Bosnian town Travnik, Nusret Abdibegovic, won 69 votes, while Sarajevo's Mufti Husein Smajic got 45 votes.

?I am aware of the obligations and responsibility that I have been entrusted with and I pray to God to give me strength to deal with them with honour and dignity,? Kavazovic said.

The President of the Sabor of the Islamic Community in Bosnia, Safet Softic, says that main focus for Kavazovic and the whole institution in the upcoming period will be the new constitution.

The former Reis-ul-ulema, Chief Mufti Mustafa Ceric, who led the Islamic Community for the past 19 years, will hand over the post to Kavazovic on November 19, when his mandate officially expires.

Kavazovic is originally from Gradacac, near Tuzla.? He attended the Islamic high school in Sarajevo and went on to study Sharia law in Cairo, Egypt.? He held the post of Mufti in Tuzla since 1993.

The Reis-ul-ulema is the head of Muslims from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Muslim diaspora from the country.

Disparities exist in surgical management of thyroid cancer

ScienceDaily (Sep. 22, 2012) ? A spectrum of disparities exist in the surgical management of well-differentiated thyroid cancer, according to new data presented at the 82nd Annual Meeting of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) in Qu?bec City, Qu?bec, Canada.

Current ATA guidelines for well-differentiated thyroid cancer recommend therapeutic neck dissection for clinically involved or metastatic disease and prophylactic central neck dissection for advanced tumors. However, even with established guidelines in place, the surgical management of cervical nodes varies greatly.

A team of researchers led by Katherine Hayes, MD, of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., reviewed data on 127,192 patients with papillary and follicular thyroid cancer who were treated surgically from 1998 to 2009 to identify disparities in the extent of lymph node dissection during thyroidectomy. Variables examined included patient age, race, gender, insurance status and education level, hospital classification, surgical volume, and size of tumor.

Thyroidectomy alone was performed in 51.1%, while 48.9% also had lymph nodes dissected. Patients with tumors > 1 cm were significantly more likely to have nodes removed during surgery (RR 1.2, CI 1.19-1.22) relative to tumors < 1 cm. Older patients and African Americans were less likely to have any nodes removed (RR 0.75, CI 0.74-0.77 and RR 0.64, CI 0.62-0.66, respectively). Patients treated at National Cancer Institute Designated Centers were more likely (RR 1.13, CI 1.1-1.15) to have > 3 lymph nodes removed, as were patients with tumors > 1 cm (RR 1.25, CI 1.21-1.28). However, women (RR 0.87, CI 0.85-0.88) and African Americans (RR 0.89, CI 0.85-0.93) consistently had fewer lymph nodes removed.

"These new data show that, in spite of existing guidelines, clinician preferences as well as patient characteristics all too often contribute to a number of disparities in the extent of surgery for well-differentiated thyroid cancer," said Elizabeth Pearce, MD, of the Boston Medical Center and Program Co-Chair of the ATA annual meeting.
