New technology is changing the way we use our credit cards. Google recently announced that its Wallet will be available 'on the cloud', in a bid to take the technology to a wider audience.

The Google Wallet app lets you use your mobile phone as a portable wallet, storing debit and credit card details on your account, enabling you to pay for goods and services in stores. Users don't have to carry money around and can redeem vouchers and offers at the point of sale.

Storing credit card details on the cloud instead of on mobile devices themselves is arguably more secure, and makes the service available to more people. According to pcadvisor.co.uk, the new version of Google Wallet will mean all debit and credit cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover will be accepted.

You can use your credit card details to make purchases with the app on your phone, the online wallet, or in Google Play. You can also keep track of any credit card purchases you make online or in store.

The Google Wallet on the cloud is available to anyone with a mobile phone, but the wallet app is only available to people with devices from Sprint and Virgin Mobile, or the new Google tablet according to pcadvisor.co.uk. 25 national retailers have apparently signed up to bring the payment technology into their stores.
