PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY

ROLE of the POSITION
This is a full-time position responsible for
providing academic counseling; advising; assistance with college entrance examinations, financial aid and college admissions; dissemination
of information to program participants; conducting needs and outcome assessment; supervising student workers and other part-time staff; as
well as assisting with periodic reports, research, and grant writing. Academic Counselor works under general direction of Program
Coordinator and Director to provide program services to participants within established guidelines; to develop and implement goals,
operating procedures and programmatic efforts; and to keep abreast of TRIO rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include a Bachelor Degree in Education or related field from an accredited
college or university and a minimum of three (3) years of comparable professional experience working with academically at-risk and
disadvantaged students. Master's degree in Education or related field is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and ability to
work with and counsel individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups that are academically-at-risk, low-income and ethnically
diverse students. Knowledge of similar programs for disadvantaged students is preferred. The ability to perform multiple responsibilities or
tasks simultaneously, work in a self-directed environment, as well as plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis is critical.
Good interpersonal communication skills are vital, since the ability to maintain effective relationships with students, administrators and
the community has an impact on the success of this position. Candidates must possess exceptional verbal and written communications skills,
effective time management skills and good computer skills. Preferable considerations will be given to those who possess TRIO and/or GEAR UP
community or similar experience.
SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly
situated institutions. Position is contingent upon availability of federal funds.
